The old center, with the Council Square in the middle and the Black Church above the roofs, is bordered by mountains that seem to rise directly from the buildings.
It is a Saxon city for centuries, with fortress walls, bastions and narrow streets — including Sforii Street, one of the narrowest in Europe. Out of the center, the Schei district retains an older, Romanian Brasov, with the Porta Ekaterina and the First Românească School.
But the real strength of Brasov is what you have around you. In less than an hour you have Bran Castle, Râșnov Castle, Poiana Brasov slopes and Peleş Castle at Sinaia. Live for the city and stay for the mountains — summer for hiking, winter for skiing.

A few things that will make your visit easier.

Traffic on DN1
During the summer and winter weekends, the road through the Prahove Valley (DN1) is severely blocked. Leave early or consider the highway and train.

The old center is partially pedestrian and crowded. Leave your car in a parking lot on the edge and walk — it’s all close.
