Mamaia 🏖️

Eight kilometers of fine sand between the sea and the lake — the navel of the Romanian summer.

Mamaia is a thin strip of land as wide as a street, caught between the Black Sea on one side and the Siutghiol lake on the other. On these eight kilometers the most famous resort on the Romanian coast: a wide beach with fine sand, a sea that enters smoothly and warms quickly, and a cliff that never sleeps in summer.

The resort has two sides. To the north it is more settled — wider beaches, families with children, lazy mornings. To the south, around the Casino, the fork begins: terraces one after the other, the Aqua Magic water park, the telegondola floating above everyone. And at the end of Navodari, Mamaia Nord has become the undisputed capital of summer entertainment in Romania.

Let’s be honest: in July and August Mamaia is full of eyes and parking becomes a performance sport. If you can choose, come in June or September — the water is still warm, the prices are milder and you have a place to stretch your towel.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit Mamaia? +
The season runs from June to September. July and August are the busiest, but also the busiest and most expensive. For warm water without congestion, choose June or the first half of September.
How much does it take from Budapest to Mamaia? +
About 260 km, almost entirely on the A2 motorway. With normal traffic you do about 3 hours. In summer, on weekends, leave early — A2 crowds towards the sea.
E Mamaia suitable for families with children? +
The sea enters smoothly and warms up quickly, the sand is fine, and the Aqua Magic, Delphinarium and Holiday Village are at hand. For quietness, choose accommodation in the northern area of the resort.
Where is the most quiet and where is the party in Mamaia? +
The general rule: to the north (Mamaia Nord = clubs and beach-party) is the entertainment area, and the central and southern areas, from Cazino to Constanta, are more suitable for families and relaxed stays.
How do you get to Mamaia without a car? +
The easiest way is by foot or by trolley/bicycle on the cliff, which runs through the entire resort. Telegondola runs you above, and the buses take you quickly to Constanta.
What can you visit in the surroundings? +
15 minutes from Constanta, with the Art Nouveau Casino and the old center. Further: Histria Castle (Ancient Greek colony), the therapeutic lake Techirghiol and the Bohemian village of Vama Veche.
