Timisoara is a city with three beautiful markets connected with each other and a Central European air that is felt at every step. Former Habsburg fortress, it has colorful baroque facades, a navigable canal and the nickname of the “city of flowers” — well deserved spring.
It is the city that sparked the Revolution in 1989, the “first city free of communism”, and which in 2023 was European Capital of Culture. It is seen in the energy of the place: restored markets, new museums, full terraces and a center made for walking.
Victory Square, with the Opera at one end and the Metropolitan Cathedral at the other, is the scene of the city. A few steps away, the Union Square, the oldest and most baroque, and the Freedom Square close a triangle that you walk through on foot.
